OK. It was that time of year again, when whole Europe magically does time jump from 3AM back to 2AM. On this ocassion SoS organized 0h Game Jam when you get to create a game between 2AM and 2AM.

This year this event coincided with Poznan Game Arena trade fair which made Sos organize special tram. The deal was simple: you get on the tram at 2AM, code riding around the city of Poznan for an hour and get back to the same spot on 2AM, having a game ready (at least more or less). For those interested how it looked like, there is an event on You Tube.

For my part, I was there, coding for about 45 minutes until my laptop battery died. My idea was to make a simple roguelike game and just before shutdown I had map rendering, moving hero and random dungeon generator ready. Not wasting the effort, I took liberty of glueing it all to form a game after the official deadline with a charger plugged it. If you wonder if it's OK for the Jam - look at its "Rules" page ;), but I believe I used extra 15-20 minutes which makes total time about OK.

The game itself is very simple - walk around, step on the bad guys and don't get stepped on (probably the simplest combat mechanic ever). The game is internally turn based with turns happening every 300ms or as soon as a key is pressed - if you walk faster, enemies will walk faster too.


I'm posting the game now, a week after the event, because it was originally made in C++. Thanks for Emscripten, I was able to convert it very easily (~2 days) to JavaScript+WebGL. Sorry for crappy performance - the C++ version used Squirrel scripting language, which means that the online version is running Squirrel VM inside JavaScript. Not hard to imagine what the result might be.
