It might have happened that you haven't heard about Demoscene so far at all. While Wikipedia will tell you most there is to know, let me just say that Demoscene is a subculture of people having fun being creative with computers. All kind of things: music, graphics, animations, and especially demos - executable programs designed to show all the former together.
As a coder, I'm particularly fond of making 4k intros - demos that are designed to fit in 4096 bytes. You can enjoy few of them in this page section.
